Stagg junior Samer Suleiman has put together a strong start to the season at 157 pounds, recording multiple technical falls, pins and tournament wins against top competition.
Suleiman’s most notable performance came Dec. 23 at the Morton Steve Eckert Holiday Classic in Cicero, where he captured the championship with four consecutive victories, including a first-round injury default, a quarterfinal pin, a semifinal decision over Montini’s Will Kander, and a 3-1 win in the finals against Burlington Central’s Ronald Perez.
Earlier in the season, Suleiman opened with a 20-4 technical fall over William Sanderson of Bradley-Bourbonnais on Dec. 19. He followed that with a forfeit win over Lincoln-Way Central on Jan. 8 and another dominant technical fall against Andrew’s Abraham Akhal on Jan. 9.
At the Evergreen Park Mega Duals on Jan. 10, Suleiman went unbeaten in four matches, earning victories over Burbank St. Laurence, Kaneland, Hinsdale South and Antioch. His wins included three technical falls and one forfeit, continuing a trend of controlling matches from the opening whistle.
Suleiman’s combination of pace, mat control and scoring ability has made him one of Stagg’s most consistent point producers this season as he continues to build momentum heading into the heart of the conference and tournament schedule.
