Stagg senior Samer Suleiman finished third in the 157-pound weight class at the IHSA Class 3A Boys Wrestling Regional, earning a podium finish against strong regional competition.
The regional tournament took place Jan. 31 at Marist High School in Chicago.
Suleiman recorded three wins on the day, showcasing resilience and efficiency in the consolation rounds. He opened with a first-period fall over Jonathan Contreras of Reavis, ending the match in 48 seconds. Suleiman later earned a 16–0 technical fall victory against Charles Shane of Oak Lawn, finishing the bout in 4:12.
In the third-place match, Suleiman secured a decision win over Frank Miceli of Brother Rice, winning 7–4 to lock in third place. His ability to rebound after a mid-tournament loss and close strong helped solidify his finish on the podium and demonstrated his composure under postseason pressure.
Suleiman’s third-place result contributed key team points for Stagg and reflected his experience, preparation and consistency throughout the regional tournament against a deep and competitive field.
The last time Suleiman competed at regionals, he also advanced out of the tournament, continuing his postseason consistency.
