Stagg wrestler Samer Suleiman expressed confidence and readiness for the new season, citing a year of postseason success, offseason training, and victories over ranked opponents as key factors in his preparation.
“I was 24–9 in the regular season,” said Suleiman. “I grinded the entire offseason — lifting, wrestling, everything. I beat kids last offseason who were ranked. I think I’m ready to go and make noise.”
According to Suleiman, his development has been influenced by a sophomore year that included a sectional berth, a third-place finish at Frosh/Soph state, and wins against state-level competitors. These achievements have established him as one of Stagg’s most seasoned returning wrestlers.
Suleiman’s wrestling style is characterized by physical and demanding engagements. His approach includes heavy hands, underhooks, and aggressive double-leg shots, which enable him to control the pace and exhaust his opponents.
His motivation stems from early challenges in the sport when observing others’ successes drove him to close the performance gap. This determination is further bolstered by family expectations, particularly those set by his brother.
Despite his rigorous work ethic, coaches perceive Suleiman as an athlete who tests boundaries; his training intensity often prompts staff to intervene to ensure he remains fresh.
