The Stagg boys wrestling team went 2-2 at the Evergreen Park Mega Duals, earning wins over Burbank St. Laurence and Maple Park Kaneland while dropping close duals to Antioch and Darien Hinsdale South.
The event was held Jan. 10, in Evergreen Park, Ill., with varsity duals contested throughout the day.
Stagg opened with a 44-34 loss to Antioch, highlighted by victories from Daniel Torres (113), Javier Corral (120), Samer Suleiman (157), Brayden Driscoll (165), Cameron Smith (175) and Kyrylo Dzydz (215). The Chargers responded with a dramatic 42-41 win over St. Laurence on tie-breaking criteria, as Corral, Ahmad Modalala (138), John Chowaniec (150), Suleiman, Driscoll, Smith and Jamal Hakawati (285) all earned wins.
In their third dual, Stagg fell 47-33 to Hinsdale South, with wins from Torres, Modalala, Chowaniec, Suleiman, Driscoll and Smith. The Chargers closed the day with a dominant 63-17 victory over Kaneland, powered by pins or forfeits from Cayden Villanueva (106), Corral, Miles Rutkoski (126), Modalala, Aizaz Uddin (144), Suleiman, Driscoll, Taras Kuzmyn (190), Dzydz and Hakawati.
Up next, Stagg will compete at the Homewood-Flossmoor Duals on Saturday, Jan. 17, with wrestling set to begin at 9 a.m.
