The Stagg High School girls varsity swim team is navigating the midpoint of its season, led by seniors Vavia Nainyte and Annie Szkapiak. Both athletes have been integral to the Chargers’ lineup, bringing years of experience and a strong partnership to the team.

According to Nainyte, who specializes in backstroke, her focus this season is on improving times while also supporting her teammates. Szkapiak, a freestyle sprinter, aims to set personal records by the sectionals in November.

Beyond their individual goals, both seniors emphasize the importance of team chemistry and traditions. The program’s pasta parties and pre-meet dinners offer swimmers opportunities to bond outside of competitions. The Chargers also host the annual Stagg Invite, fostering community spirit among athletes from various schools.

The team balances competitive intensity with positivity through pre-race playlists and rituals behind the blocks. For younger swimmers, Nainyte and Szkapiak convey a clear message: enjoy the sport, be supportive teammates, and cherish the memories made through mutual encouragement.
