The Stagg girls basketball team earned a hard-fought 38-35 conference victory over Lincoln-Way Central, pulling out a three-point road win in a tightly contested matchup.
The game was played Jan. 15 at Lincoln-Way Central High School, where the Chargers held off a late push to secure the win and improve their standing in conference play.
Stagg controlled much of the game with strong defensive pressure and timely scoring, building small leads in each quarter and answering every Lincoln-Way Central run. The Chargers limited second-chance opportunities and forced tough shots down the stretch, while converting key free throws and baskets in the final minutes to preserve the margin. The three-point difference reflected a physical, possession-by-possession battle that stayed within one or two scores for most of the night.
The Chargers were led by a senior core that includes Lina Baker, Abby Ellsworth, Viktoria Dziemian, Abbey Hobart, Victoria Bedziechowski and Jada Griffin, with additional contributions from juniors Juliane Roupas, Raine Rispin, Stephanie Chandler, Haneen Gorchene, Mariam Jarad and Greta Rimkevicius, along with sophomores Morgan Littman and Rayven Brewer.
Up next, Stagg will host Joliet Central on Feb. 7 before traveling to Joliet Central on Feb. 8.
The last time the Chargers faced Joliet Central, Stagg dropped a 63-33 decision in their previous meeting.
