The Stagg girls basketball team held off Oak Lawn for a 50-45 non-conference victory.
The game was played Jan. 10, at Stagg High School, where the Chargers used a strong fourth quarter to pull away in a tightly contested matchup that featured multiple lead changes and steady defensive pressure from both sides.
Stagg was led by its senior core, including Lina Baker, Abby Ellsworth, Viktoria Dziemian, Abbey Hobart, Victoria Bedziechowski and Jada Griffin, who anchored the lineup on both ends of the floor and provided leadership in key late-game moments. Junior guards Juliane Roupas and Stephanie Chandler, along with underclassmen Morgan Littman, Rayven Brewer and Mariam Jarad, helped provide balance as the Chargers built a narrow lead through three quarters before closing strong at the free-throw line and on the defensive end.
Oak Lawn kept the game close throughout, trimming the margin in the final minutes, but Stagg’s defensive pressure and timely stops down the stretch sealed the win.
Up next, Stagg travels to Oak Forest for an 11:30 a.m. matchup on Saturday, Jan. 24. The Chargers previously defeated Oak Forest 48-22 in their last meeting on Jan. 25.
