Stagg dancer Abby Sundararaj embraces dance as a means to alleviate stress, connect with emotions, and enjoy the process alongside her teammates.
“I started dancing when I was 13 — a lot later than everyone else,” said Sundararaj. “I made varsity this year. Dance is a break from stress and other things in my life. It’s a way to let go, connect with emotion, and have fun. It’s not just about competing and winning, especially with this team — it’s a positive environment.”
According to Sundararaj, her rapid advancement to varsity highlights her dedication and adaptability. She quickly learns technical skills while embracing the performance and expressive aspects of the sport. Her energy and perspective contribute to a welcoming, supportive culture for newer dancers.
Sundararaj is particularly looking forward to the Stagg Invitational and other competitions this season. She aims to showcase the team’s hard work while enjoying planned bonding activities that strengthen relationships and camaraderie among teammates.
Music plays a crucial role in her artistic expression. Sundararaj selects songs that allow her to connect deeply with emotion, such as her preferred lyrical choice, “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls. She translates its sentiment into movement that resonates both personally and for the audience.
Her enthusiasm and positive mindset help set the tone for Stagg Dance, balancing technical precision with joy and team connection.
