The Stagg boys wrestling team turned in multiple strong individual performances at the Homewood-Flossmoor Duals, competing against a deep field and gaining valuable postseason-style experience.
The duals were held Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, with the Chargers facing a full slate of opponents in a multi-dual format.
Samer Suleiman led the way with a series of bonus-point victories, earning two technical falls and a major decision in his opening-round bouts, along with a decision win to cap a dominant morning on the mat. Javier Corral also posted a strong showing, picking up a technical fall and a forfeit victory while battling through a tough draw that included a decision loss to a Downers Grove opponent.
Daniel Torres added two wins by fall and a technical fall, showcasing his ability to score quickly from the top position, while also competing in a tightly contested bout against high-level competition. Brayden Driscoll recorded multiple first-period pins, including sub-minute falls, and added another victory to his day despite facing a major-decision loss in one round.
Ahmad Modalala contributed with three wins, including a first-period pin and additional falls, while gaining experience against state-level opponents in the upper weights.
The collection of bonus-point wins and competitive matches reflected Stagg’s depth across the lineup and provided the Chargers with important momentum and mat time as they continue preparing for conference and postseason competition later in the season.
