Stagg High School’s boys basketball team is entering a crucial phase of their season under the guidance of head coach Marty Strus. The Chargers are focusing on leveraging their experience, size, and veteran presence to define their early-season identity.
According to the team’s schedule, Stagg will host Sandburg on December 9 at 6 p.m. This game presents an opportunity for the Chargers to enhance their rotation chemistry and improve execution on both offense and defense. It also serves as a significant benchmark for evaluating pacing, ball movement, and defensive positioning in the initial part of their schedule.
The Chargers’ roster includes a strong senior core featuring Omar Barakat, Jemai Cummings (5’10”, PG/SG), Ryan Rozak, Daniel Mora, and Yazan Alzalam (6’5″, PF/C, 215 lbs). The team also benefits from juniors Dovydas Zuperka (6’8″, SF/PF) and Mohammad Farhan (6’5″, PF/C, 190 lbs), providing Strus with valuable length and versatility in the frontcourt. This combination of maturity, size, and lineup flexibility is instrumental in establishing the Chargers’ style during the early season.
Following this game, Stagg will travel to Homewood-Flossmoor on December 12 at 6:30 p.m. This away match will test the Chargers in a high-tempo environment as they aim to build momentum before conference play becomes more intense.
