Stagg junior Javier Corral earned a third-place finish at the IHSA Class 3A Boys Wrestling Regional, securing a podium spot in the 120-pound weight class.
The regional tournament was held Jan. 31 at Marist High School in Chicago.
Corral put together a strong performance throughout the day, finishing with three victories to earn third place. He opened the tournament with a technical fall win over Logan Esparza of Blue Island Eisenhower, scoring a 16–0 decision in 3:47. Corral followed with a dominant 15–0 technical fall against Saul Cisneros of Shepard, ending the match in 2:37.
After a setback in the semifinal round, Corral rebounded in the consolation bracket, defeating Logan Connors of Brother Rice by major decision, 14–0, to clinch third place. His ability to control matches offensively and secure bonus points played a key role in his podium finish.
Corral’s placement added valuable points for Stagg in a highly competitive regional field and capped a consistent showing across multiple bouts.
The last time Corral competed at the regional level, he also placed, continuing a trend of postseason success for the Stagg program.
