Behind strong rebounding and steady defense, Stagg topped Schaumburg 37–30 in varsity girls non-conference play.
The win came Jan. 31 on the road at Schaumburg High School.
The Chargers held the Saxons to just 30 points, showcasing their defensive discipline by forcing contested looks and limiting clean opportunities. Stagg leaned on efficient shooting, converting 41 percent from the field compared to Schaumburg’s 34 percent, and their ability to knock down free throws at an 80 percent clip proved crucial in a low-scoring battle. Their defensive stops created momentum, and the team’s composure at the line ensured they capitalized on every chance to extend their lead.
On the glass, Stagg controlled the boards with a 25–16 advantage, denying second-chance points and setting the tone physically. While both teams matched evenly in steals and blocks, highlighting the defensive intensity on both sides, Stagg’s rebounding edge gave them extra possessions that made the difference. Their struggles from beyond the arc, hitting only 18 percent, were offset by their dominance inside and at the stripe. In the end, it was Stagg’s balance of defense, rebounding, and free-throw accuracy that secured the win and underscored their ability to grind out tough victories.
Amos Alonzo Stagg High School’s athletics calendar lists IHSA playoff dates for the Lady Chargers beginning Sunday, Feb. 14, though no opponent has yet been announced.
